NHL ROUNDUP : Canadiens Outscore Penguins, 8-5
- Share via
The Canadiens have been successful in Montreal--if less so elsewhere--but they have been scorned by fans who are used to flamboyance and offense.
And then Pittsburgh came to town Wednesday.
Mathieu Schneider had two goals and set up one by Mark Recchi as Montreal beat the Penguins, 8-5, in the Forum, where the Canadiens are 7-1-3.
“It’s been a really frustrating year as far as goal-scoring goes,” said Schneider, whose team had managed only 11 goals in its previous eight games.
Philadelphia 4, New York Rangers 3--John LeClair’s goal with 3:38 to play in New York lifted the Flyers to a victory over the Rangers and into a first-place tie with them in the Atlantic Division.
Toronto 2, San Jose 1--Goals by Mats Sundin and Randy Wood and a strong defensive effort lifted the Maple Leafs at San Jose, where the Sharks were outshot, 24-6, in the first two periods and 33-13 for the game.
