VENTURA : $60,000 Targeted for CSUN Telethon

Share

Officials with the Ventura campus of Cal State Northridge are hoping to raise $60,000 during a three-hour telethon and auction airing tonight on KADY-TV.

“We are the only ones in the public university system who hold a telethon,” said Joyce Kennedy, director of the CSUN-Ventura campus.

Kennedy said a similar telethon in 1993 raised $45,000. The money will be used by the school to supplement its ever-decreasing state funding, Kennedy said.

“We’ve been hit very hard,” Kennedy said of recent state budget cuts.

Actors including Buddy Hackett, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner and June Allyson will appear in video-taped pleas throughout the telethon, which starts at 7 p.m. Local personalities such as VCNN newscasters Tracy Lehr and Dan Greene will appear in live broadcasts.

Items to be auctioned include an Aspen Air whale-watching trip, a Las Vegas trip and a script of the television series “Dallas” autographed by actor and Ojai resident Larry Hagman.
