Douglas Set to Deliver New Airliner: Douglas Aircraft Co. on Friday is scheduled to hand over the keys to its first MD-90 jet--built at Douglas’ 10,000-employee commercial aircraft site in Long Beach--to Delta Air Lines. The MD-90, a successor to Douglas’ MD-80 and DC-9 planes, is a twin-engine, intermediate-range jet that seats up to 172 people, is priced between $30 million and $40 million and is designed to accommodate new noise and emissions standards for commercial airliners. The MD-90 is also a bright spot in Douglas’ overall struggle to secure sizable numbers of new orders for its commercial airliners. A total of 74 MD-90s are on firm order by airlines, including 31 by Delta.
