Three women who work Downtown were honored last week by Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre as "Outstanding Woman Making It Happen" for Women's History Month.
Ellie Vargas-Page, principal at Ninth Street Elementary School, was chosen for creating a support team for the school from residents and businesses, said Linda Chavez of Alatorre's office.
Beth Tishler, executive director and founder of Inner-City Arts, was selected for her dedication to bringing multicultural arts and work space to 5,000 inner-city children, Chavez said.
Riga Petlin Gerrish, a Downtown artist and community activist, was honored for her support of the Ninth Street Elementary School, the Inner-City Arts, and for her role in launching the Downtown Arts Development Assn.
The women were honored with a City Hall ceremony and luncheon at an Olvera Street restaurant.
