Malibu resident Missy Zeitsoff was named Woman of the Year by Assemblywoman Sheila J. Kuehl (D-Santa Monica), whose 41st District includes Malibu and parts of the San Fernando Valley.

Kuehl presented Zeitsoff, an environmental activist and former councilwoman, with a plaque during an assembly meeting in Sacramento. Kuehl is honoring Zeitsoff for her involvement in national and local movements to stop violent crime.

The 1992 slaying of Zeitsoff’s son, Justin, served as the catalyst for her anti-crime work, which has included involvement in such organizations as Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles, Women Against Gun Violence, Increase the Peace and the Community Health Advisory Committee of the Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District.
