Machine Tool Orders Down Again: The monthly report on metal-cutting and -forming tools, a gauge of future economic activity, substantiated recent evidence that the economy is slowing down. The Assn. for Manufacturing Technology said machine tool orders totaled $372.8 million last month, down 1.14% from January, but still up a strong 35.3% from a year earlier. It was the second straight monthly downturn.
