Quebec and Pittsburgh have been going back and forth all season, trading the lead for the most points in the NHL seemingly daily.

But the Nordiques put a little space between themselves and the Penguins, stretching their lead to three points with an 11-4 victory at Ottawa on Sunday.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, was shut out for the first time in two years in a regular-season game, 2-0, at Miami.

Quebec’s victory is an example of misleading statistics. The Nordiques were outshot, 35-32, and Ottawa got a hat trick from Alexandre Daigle. But Scott Young scored the first of his three goals in the second minute and Quebec never looked back.

“We were firing with all our guns,” Nordique Coach Marc Crawford said.

Florida 2, Pittsburgh 0--John Vanbiesbrouck had 24 saves in his fourth shutout of the season. Jason Belanger scored the first goal when he re-directed a wobbly shot by Jason Wooley.

Philadelphia 3, Buffalo 1--Dominic Roussel won his fifth game in a row with a 23-save performance at home for the Flyers, 9-1-1 in their last 11 games.

St. Louis 5, Edmonton 1--Brendan Shanahan scored twice and goalie Curtis Joseph faced a season-low 16 shots as the Blues won at St. Louis.

New Jersey 5, New York Islanders 5--Ray Ferraro’s goal with 2:34 to play in regulation capped the Islanders’ rally from a 5-2 deficit at Uniondale, N.Y.

Hartford 4, Washington 3--Geoff Sanderson scored on a breakaway with 2:44 to play in overtime, giving the Whalers their third victory in a row and ending the Capitals’ home unbeaten streak at eight games. They dropped to 5-1-3 in their last nine games at home.
