THOUSAND OAKS : Council Considers Boulevard Shuttle

A plan to start shuttle bus service up and down the busy Thousand Oaks Boulevard corridor will be considered at tonight’s City Council meeting.

Mayor Jaime Zukowski is proposing that the city apply for a federal grant through the Ventura County Transportation Commission to study the need for shuttle bus service.

While city bus service already travels three routes in Newbury Park, central Thousand Oaks and Westlake, there is no public transit directly serving Thousand Oaks Boulevard--the city’s busiest commercial thoroughfare.

Zukowski said the study is expected to cost as much as $20,000. Up to 80% of it could be funded by the federal government, with the city paying the remainder.

The study would examine fare structure, routes, coordination with existing public transit, a promotional program and funding sources.
