NHL ROUNDUP : Maple Leafs Win, but Lose

Share
From Associated Press

The Maple Leafs beat the Edmonton Oilers for the first time in two years, but the 4-3 victory Monday at Toronto might have been costly.

Bill Berg’s goal 21 seconds into the third period was the game winner, but concern afterward was about Dmitri Mironov, Toronto’s best defenseman this season. He sustained a separated left shoulder when he went sliding into the end boards in the third period and will be X-rayed today.

Toronto has been without Dave Ellett since he cracked a bone in his foot Feb. 27, so the Maple Leafs will be missing their top two defensemen for a while.

Dave Andreychuk, Mike Ridley and Randy Wood also scored for Toronto, which had lost three in a row to the Oilers since last beating them Feb. 19, 1994.

Tampa Bay 3, Montreal 2--Petr Klima scored on a breakaway 2:23 into overtime, giving the Lightning a victory and making the Canadiens 2-13-2 on the road.

With 26 points, the Lightning is three points behind Buffalo, Florida and the New York Rangers in the race for the final Eastern playoff spot.

St. Louis 3, Dallas 2--Brendan Shanahan scored with 6:10 to play as the Blues sent the Stars to their first home loss in more than a month.

NHL Notes

Buffalo Sabres Coach John Muckler was suspended for three games and fined $10,000 by the NHL for allegedly slapping a fan after a March 19 loss to Tampa Bay. Muckler will miss home games tonight against Quebec and Thursday against Ottawa as well as Saturday’s game at the New York Islanders.
