City officials have donated $500,000 to renovate Compton High School’s aging auditorium, which will be used for concerts, dance recitals and other cultural events.
Construction is expected to begin this summer and will be completed later this year, officials said. Renovation plans include reupholstering the hall’s 1,610 seats, redesigning the stage and installing new stage lights, grants coordinator Deborah Broadus said.
The auditorium at 602 S. Acacia St. was built in 1934.
