Obituaries : Anna S. Brand; Retired Physician

Anna S. Brand, a retired physician and matriarch of a medical family, died Wednesday in Ventura. She was 83.

Mrs. Brand’s husband, son, sister and son-in-law are also physicians.

“There was no doubt I would become a doctor,” said son Richard D. Brand, who has a private practice in Oxnard.

Mrs. Brand was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States in 1936. She married Michael Brand, also a native of Poland, in 1947.

After the couple married, they practiced medicine in the Chicago area before retiring and moving to Ventura in 1989.

Mrs. Brand was a member of Temple Beth Torah in Ventura and of Hadassah.

She is also survived by her daughter in-law, Ellen S. Brand of Camarillo; daughter and son-in-law, Jean S. Geller and Dr. Steve Geller, both of Rockford, Ill.; a sister, Dr. Perla Strom of Rome, Italy, and six grandchildren.

A service is scheduled for noon Friday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura. Burial will follow in Ivy Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund in care of Temple Beth Torah, 7620 Kimball Road, Ventura, 93004.
