A Wilshire-area man is being held in the fatal stabbing of his wife, an eighth-grade teacher.

Ibrahim Gonzales, 39, was arrested on suspicion of murder after his wife, Leda Griffen, 44, was attacked with a hunting knife about 7:40 a.m. Sunday at the couple’s home in the 6000 block of Alcott Street, Los Angeles Police Lt. Ross Moen said.

Gonzalez reportedly called police after an alleged murder-suicide attempt. He was treated for a self-inflicted knife wound at a local hospital before being booked into Los Angeles County Jail, Moen said.

Griffen was a history and social studies teacher at Hawthorne Intermediate School, according to Hawthorne School District officials. She had taught at the middle school since 1974.

Sara Sellars, director of information for the district, said: “(Griffen) was a very well-loved teacher, bonding easily with the students. She had a large group of students who would come back to visit her after graduation.”
