No. 1 Foothill Remains Unbeaten by Sweeping Woodbridge Aside

Share

Lauren Bauer hit a grand slam and top-ranked Foothill remained unbeaten by sweeping a doubleheader from Woodbridge, 5-2 and 10-0, in a nonleague softball game Friday at Alton Park.

Bauer, one of Orange County’s top run producers, hit a line drive that cleared the head of Warrior center fielder Mary Ortiz with the bases full in the third inning of the second game. Lindsey Fossati, who posted a complete-game shutout for Foothill (11-0), added a three-run homer later in the inning that put the Knights ahead, 7-0, en route to their fifth-inning, mercy-rule victory.

In the first game, the Knights pestered Warrior starter Christy Robitaille with six stolen bases and two suicide squeezes. Rosie Gustavson set the tone for Foothill by leading off the third with a single and a steal, advancing to third on a bad throw to second. Michelle Churnock then reached on an infield error and Carly Rutledge followed with a suicide squeeze that drove in Gustavson. The Knights’ baserunning antics ceased only after adding three more runs in the inning, which put a lock on the game early.

Marie Gieron earned her eighth victory without a loss in the first game, going the distance for the Knights, giving up only three hits. Robitaille, on the other hand, has been plagued by poor luck of late. She suffered her first loss of the season Tuesday against Fullerton despite pitching a no-hitter and three of the five runs she gave up to Foothill were unearned.
