The Chicago Bears on Tuesday traded defensive end Trace Armstrong to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for two of the Dolphins’ picks in this month’s NFL draft.

Armstrong played for the Bears sor six seasons, accumulating 411 tackles and 42 sacks. He was the team’s first-round draft choice in 1989 out of Florida.

By giving him up, the Bears will get Miami’s second- ad third-round picks, 56th and 87th overall.

“Trace was a good player for the Bears and I have no doubt he’ll help the Dolphins win a lot of football games,” said Chicago Coach Dave Wannstedt.

Wannstedt said the Bears would replace Armstrong by moving Al Fontenot to end to join Alonzo Spellman and John Thierry.

The draft is April 22-23.
