Joseph A. Ippolito; Award-Winning Sound Editor for Movies

Joseph A. Ippolito, 39, award-winning sound editor on such films as “Top Gun” and “Fried Green Tomatoes.” Ippolito’s career began in 1976 when he worked with Douglas Trumbull on sound for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” In 1987, Ippolito won the Golden Reel Award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors for his work on “Top Gun.” Ippolito’s other films included “Brainstorm,” “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” “Lethal Weapon II,” “White Hunter, Black Heart,” “Witness” and “The Addams Family.” He was also supervising dialogue editor on “The Brady Bunch Movie,” “The Hunt for Red October” and “Clear and Present Danger.” He had recently worked on “Bridges of Madison County,” a Clint Eastwood film now in production. Ippolito grew up in Sherman Oaks and attended Loyola Marymount University. On Thursday in Santa Monica of kidney failure.
