WHITTIER : Convicted Rapist Admits Kidnaping, Raping Girl

Share

A convicted rapist admitted Wednesday that he kidnaped an 8-year-old girl and raped her in an apartment complex carport, leaving her unconscious.

Larry Salvador Martinez, 39, pleaded guilty to kidnaping a person under 14, child molestation and rape, in addition to special allegations that include infliction of bodily injury, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Dinko Bozanich.

“We are currently in trial now on the issue of his prior felony convictions and prison terms and the implications of those on his sentence,” the prosecutor said. “If we prove his previous conviction history, he literally is facing life without parole.”

Bozanich noted that in an unusual twist, Martinez is seeking to be called a “three strikes” defendant because he would face less prison time.

“Three strikes is not life without parole. It’s something less,” the prosecutor said.

Martinez, who is from an unincorporated county area near Whittier, abducted the girl in July, 1994, from the Los Arcos apartment complex where she lived.
