Share

Visitors to City Hall will soon have more parking options because of a reciprocal parking agreement with St. James Episcopal Church of Newport Beach.

The City Council last week approved the plan, which will make available about 40 more parking spaces for employees and visitors on weekdays.

Under the agreement, the city will be able to use half of the parking lot at the church, 3209 Via Lido, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

The exact number of spaces available will fluctuate during the next two years while the church is being renovated.

Ultimately, the city expects to gain 40 spaces.

In return, the city will let the church use 25 City Hall spaces on Saturdays and 45 on Sundays and city holidays.

Parking hours would be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The agreement lasts through December, 2014, but either side may break the deal with two years’ notice and by arranging for replacement parking.

The council was unanimous in approving the deal.
