NHL ROUNDUP : A Feel-Good Victory for Nordiques

No one had to remind Quebec right winger Owen Nolan of the Nordiques’ recent string of failure against the Montreal Canadiens.

“We proved tonight that if we want to pay the price, we can beat them. It feels good to beat them,” Nolan said after he scored two goals and rookie Peter Forsberg had three assists in a 3-2 victory Thursday night at Quebec.

Since winning the first two games against the Canadiens in the Stanley Cup playoffs two years ago, Quebec was 1-10-1 against Montreal, including a 6-5 defeat in Montreal on Wednesday.

Philadelphia 5, Tampa Bay 4--John LeClair continued his good fortune against the Lightning, scoring early in the third period to lead the Flyers at Philadelphia.

LeClair scored from the top of the blue line past goalie J.C. Bergeron for his sixth goal in three games against Tampa Bay this season.

Boston 1, Buffalo 1--The Sabres extended their unbeaten streak to five games thanks to Yuri Khmylev’s power-play goal midway through the first period at Boston.

Boston’s Cam Neely tied the game in the second period as the Bruins outshot Buffalo, 36-23, but goalies Dominik Hasek of the Sabres and Blaine Lacher of the Bruins came up with big saves.
