ELECTION: Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to elect four Los Angeles City Council members in districts with San Fernando Valley territory. Citywide, eight of the council’s 15 seats are up for grabs in the primary election. . . . For information about polling locations and absentee voting, call (213) 485-3581 or (310) 462-2748. . . . Absentee ballots may be turned into the city clerk’s office through today.

5TH DISTRICT: Four candidates are vying for the seat left vacant by Zev Yaroslavsky’s election to the County Board of Supervisors in this hotly contested race. They are Sherman Oaks businessman Jeff Brain, 35; Mike Feuer, 36, director of a Westside legal services agency; former school board member Roberta Weintraub, 59; and activist--and Zev’s wife--Barbara Yaroslavsky, 47. . . . The district includes parts of Van Nuys, Studio City, Sherman Oaks and the Westside.

12TH DISTRICT: In this northwest Valley district, voters must choose among a journalist, a four-term incumbent and a 31-year city employee. . . . Maria Armoudian, 28, is executive editor of Global Network News. Incumbent Hal Bernson, 64, has served on the council since 1979. David Guzman Sr., 52, is a liaison between the city and businesses and developers seeking permits.

2ND DISTRICT: Born eight years and a day apart, Wayne Clary and Joel Wachs are hoping to land the council seat in this working-class Valley district that includes parts of Sunland, Tujunga, Sun Valley, Van Nuys and North Hollywood. . . . Sunland resident Clary, 48, is a computer consultant for the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Incumbent Wachs, 56, is seeking his seventh term on the council.

4TH DISTRICT: With a small section of North Hollywood included in this mostly Eastside district, the final Valley-related race pits incumbent John Ferraro against Linda W. Lockwood. . . . Ferraro, 70, is council president and its longest-serving member. Lockwood, 52, is a former financial consultant.
