COSTA MESA : Donations Needed for City Cleanup Event

Share

Volunteers will plant trees in Canyon Park and spruce up about 40 apartments on the west side at the city’s annual cleanup day, set this year for April 22.

To get ready for the event, which is co-sponsored by the city of Costa Mesa, the Orange County Fairgrounds and the California Assn. of Nurserymen, organizers are seeking donations of paint, brushes, rollers, work gloves, trash bags and dropcloths.

Cash donations also are being accepted.

As part of the project, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon, workers will paint over graffiti, repair fences and haul away trash too big for sanitation workers to pick up.

After the cleanup, volunteers will gather in Canyon Park for food supplied by local restaurants. The gathering also will feature the Orange Coast College Intermediate Orchestra, the drums of Pangea, the Estancia High School band and Ritmo Latino.

During the party, an information booth will be set up for the upcoming Orange County Fair.

Also, the city of Costa Mesa will receive a plaque as Tree City U.S.A., a status awarded by the state to cities that actively promote tree planting.
