CALABASAS : East Area to Receive Council Broadcasts

Share

Beginning sometime next month, residents of eastern Calabasas will be able to see City Council meetings live on cable television, city officials said.

A microwave system is being set up on a hilltop above the city to transmit the signal over the mountains to residents in the east end, City Manager Charles Cate said.

Currently, only west end residents receive live broadcasts.

The system, which costs about $45,000, is being paid for by CalaVision, a local cable television station that airs the meetings, Cate said.

In a related matter, the City Council voted recently to approve spending $9,070 for equipment that will improve reception throughout the city on the channel that airs the council meetings. Council members acted on advice from Roy LaViolette, the city’s communications consultant.

The City Council last month voted to temporarily expand cable television coverage of council meetings and to begin airing some Planning Commission meetings.

The council voted to spend $2,500 over the next two months to pay labor costs for a camera operator to film about six additional meetings, city officials said.

It costs the city about $350 to televise a meeting, officials said.
