Zumwalt, 28, already has been through the collegiate mill once--as a football player. He was a standout defensive end at Golden West and earned a scholarship to Arizona State, where he played on the Sun Devils’ 1988 Rose Bowl team that upset Michigan. Now, he is back at Golden West working to became a standout decathlete. He won the Southern California championship last week with 6,404 points. He took firsts in the discus and the 110 hurdles. He moves on to the State meet, May 19-20 at Bakersfield.
