Countywide : Breezy Cold Front Expected to Move In for Easter Weekend

Orange County can expect patchy fog and clouds the rest of this week and a chilly, breezy Easter weekend as a cold front moves into the county, meteorologists said.

The front is part of a storm system moving into Northern California, and it could bring some rain to the county on Saturday, said Curtis Brack, a meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

“This is a fairly cool storm system for this time of year,” Brack said.

Temperatures in the mid-60s and 70s today are expected to drop into the 60s throughout the Southland on Friday, Brack said. Mountain temperatures will likely dip into the 40s this weekend.

Orange County skies should begin clearing by Easter Sunday, Brack said, but cool winds of 10 to 20 m.p.h. will blow out of the north and northwest, with gusts up to 30 m.p.h.

Those winds will bring a stark contrast to the clear skies residents enjoyed over the past week. Unlike last week’s Santa Ana winds, which blow toward the sea, these gusts will blow inland, trapping the smog under a pocket layer of high pressure and keeping it pushed up against the mountains east of Orange County.
