PREP ROUNDUP : Estancia Narrowly Wins Tribute to Youth Golf Tournament

Estancia edged Brawley by one stroke to win the Tribute to Youth golf tournament Thursday at the Desert Princess course in Palm Springs.

Estancia--Pete Krutzik, Mike Perry, Ross Necessary and Andy Thomson--totaled 369 strokes in the four-player best-ball format. Brawley had 370, defending champion Esperanza 371 and Valencia 372.

The Eagles became the third consecutive Orange County team to win the tournament.

In the Las Vegas Durango baseball tournament:

Canyon 6, Las Vegas Valley 0--David Takehara pitched a complete-game shutout with 13 strikeouts in a consolation game.

Eric Valent went one for one with three walks.

In another consolation game, Canyon beat Simi Valley, 6-1, as Jeff Levenberger (6-0) gave up four hits and went two for three with two RBIs for Canyon (12-4).

Bobby Fry went three for three and Darren Chandler went two for three for the Comanches.

In nonleague softball:

Savanna 4-4, Calvary Chapel 2-1--Crystal Zaleski went two for three with an RBI for Savanna in the second game of the doubleheader. Chrissy Vega had two hits and pitcher Jamie Racke, who went the distance, had four strikeouts for the Rebels.

In the first game, Jennifer Cope had eight strikeouts and one walk for Savanna (11-4). Jacque Gonzalez had two hits for the Rebels.
