SHERMAN OAKS : Chief Williams to Address Homeowners

Share

Los Angeles Police Chief Willie L. Williams will be the guest speaker at a community meeting sponsored by the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn. on Thursday.

Assn. President Richard Close said it will be a rare public appearance by Williams, who mainly speaks to groups in forums where the general public is not invited.

Williams last spoke at a Sherman Oaks homeowners meeting two years ago. Close said 700 people showed up to hear him.

“Residents and businesses want to learn what is being done to combat crime in the Valley,” Close said. “Are there currently more officers on the street than two years ago? Are our neighborhoods and community safer now than two years ago? How can we help?”

Association leaders will also provide an update on the group’s legal challenge to the redevelopment project established in the Sherman Oaks area. The group has filed a lawsuit against the city to invalidate the project.

Area residents are invited to attend the free community meeting, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Dixie Canyon Avenue School auditorium, 4220 Dixie Canyon Ave., Sherman Oaks.
