From Associated Press

John LeClair doesn’t mind being questioned about his dominance of the Tampa Bay Lightning, even if he can’t explain it.

LeClair broke a 2-2 tie with his 22nd goal of the year with 8:11 remaining in the third period Friday to lift the Flyers past the Lightning, 3-2, at Philadelphia.

“It’s just one of those things this year,” said LeClair, who has seven goals and six assists in four games against Tampa Bay. “I just seem to get a lot of points against this team.”

New Jersey 6, N.Y. Islanders 3--Shawn Chambers and Neal Broten scored a minute apart in the third period as the Devils rallied from an early three-goal deficit to beat the Islanders at East Rutherford, N.J.

Bill Guerin and Stephane Richer scored two goals apiece as the Devils won for the ninth time in 13 games to keep pace with first-place Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division.

N.Y. Rangers 5, Boston 3--Mark Messier set up two goals each for Pat Verbeek and Brian Leetch as the Rangers beat the Bruins in New York to stay in the thick of the playoff race.

The Rangers remained two points behind Hartford for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. New York and Hartford each have nine games left, including a meeting at Madison Square Garden next Thursday.

Quebec 5, Buffalo 2--Valeri Kamensky scored two goals and Owen Nolan had three assists in Quebec as the Nordiques sent the Sabres to their fourth consecutive defeat.

The victory, before an announced capacity crowd of 15,399, improved the Nordiques’ home record to 16-1-3, best in the NHL.

Hartford 4, Montreal 3 (OT)--Darren Turcotte scored at 2:04 of overtime as the Walers, who overcame three one-goal deficits in the third period, beat the Canadiens at Hartford to maintain their challenge for an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

The loss extended the road woes of the struggling Canadiens, who have won only three times in 22 games on foreign ice.

Washington 3, Florida 0--Peter Bondra continued his torrid scoring streak with a goal and an assist and rookie goalie Jim Carey got his fourth shutout of the season as the Capitals snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Panthers at Landover, Md.

Detroit 3, Chicago 1--Steve Yzerman scored twice as the Red Wings beat the Blackhawks in Chicago, setting a franchise record with their seventh consecutive road victory.

Chris Osgood made 30 saves for Detroit, which has a six-game winning streak and is 10-0-1 in the last three weeks.
