LOLLAPALOOZA LINE: Now that plans to have Neil Young, Snoop Doggy Dogg or a reunited Clash headline this summer’s Lollapalooza have fallen through, it looks as if the annual tour will be getting back to its alternative rock roots.

A source close to the tour says that no artist contracts have been finalized yet. However, longtime alternative heroes Sonic Youth and more recent sensation Hole have reportedly been offered the two top slots of the traveling rock show, and L.A. rap trio Cypress Hill has all but officially signed on.

Iconoclastic hip-hop-folkie Beck, the band Pavement and confrontational Chicago outfit Jesus Lizard have also been approached, and there’s an outside chance that Sinead O’Connor might jump on board for her first full U.S. tour in five years.

Without a superstar headliner, the plan apparently is for Lollapalooza to return to 10,000- to 15,000-seat amphitheaters after two years of playing many larger “festival” sites.
