Police officials said Monday that they are continuing to search for a 16-year-old girl who disappeared Feb. 27 after she was seen leaving school with a 17-year-old boy from Seattle whom she had met several weeks earlier.

Maria Ana Marijanovic, a Los Alamitos High School honors student, was last seen entering the boy’s white-and-red 1972 Volkswagen van in the high school parking lot during lunch hour, according to police.

A member of the high school’s junior varsity volleyball team, she is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has blond hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a light gray sweater and jeans.

The young man, whose identity was not revealed because of his age, was interviewed by police in Washington after the girl’s disappearance.

The boy told police he last saw Marijanovic at Rossmoor Shopping Center on April 6, officers said.

The girl’s mother, Millie Marijanovic, said her husband, Tony, has been searching for their daughter in Northern California and Washington and has found a Sacramento motel clerk who identified her.

“I just want her to know I don’t care what happened,” Millie Marijanovic said, wiping away the tears. “We love her very much and we just want her home.”

Seal Beach police say they are continuing their investigation.

Anyone who has seen Maria Marijanovic or who has any information about her disappearance is asked to call Seal Beach police Detective Bob Mullins at (310) 431-2541.
