Share

Mothers Against Drunk Driving will hold a series of shows at high schools across the county in the next five weeks to convince students that drinking and driving just don’t mix.

Called “Sober Prom,” the dramatic performances and real life videos of the tragic consequences of drunken driving will be shown at 25 high schools. Guest speakers will also be on hand to warn students to use extra caution on prom night.

“We hope to prevent needless deaths and injuries,” said Randall McClure, the program coordinator for MADD in Orange County.

Each so-called Sober Prom assembly will last 45 minutes. The first will take place at 10:30 a.m. today at Foothill High School in Santa Ana.

“It sends out a real positive message about not drinking and driving and enjoying your time while you’re at the prom,” said Sheila Adams, activities director for the high school. Between 700 and 800 juniors and seniors are scheduled to attend the event.

On Wednesday, the presentation will be given at Troy High School in Fullerton, beginning at 11:10 a.m.

Other high schools on MADD’s list between now and May 26 include: Bolsa Grande in Garden Grove, Sunny Hills in Fullerton, Edison in Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Garden Grove and Cypress high schools, Loara in Anaheim, Lutheran in Orange, Brea Olinda in Brea, Corona del Mar in Newport Beach and Century in Santa Ana.
