A former Compton school administrator who was accused of swindling the district out of thousands of dollars pleaded guilty Monday to grand theft charges and was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Charles Monk, 63, the district’s former purchasing director, admitted approving four school district checks totaling $27,461 for supplies the district never received, said Georgia Sullivan Huerta, deputy district attorney.

Monk ordered supplies from two fictitious companies and pocketed the money, authorities said.
