ORANGE COAST COLLEGE

$1.2 Million Raised for Children’s Center

About $1.2 million has been raised for a new Children’s Center on campus.

Construction is expected to begin within a year on the $2.5-million center, which will provide child development services for low-income parents attending the college.

The center is now quartered in several temporary buildings on campus.

A recent boost in the fund-raising effort came with a $15,000 gift from the Max Offenberg Family Trust. The donation is earmarked for an art studio in a 12,500-square-foot facility planned for the southern edge of the Costa Mesa campus off Merrimac Way.

Offenberg, a retired surgeon, is the father of Vicki Borthwick--the Children’s Center assistant director. Borthwick describes the center as a “lifeline” for low-income students with young children.
