If you like wine, grab a designated driver and check out the second annual Barrel Tasting and BarBQ on Friday at the Gainey Vineyard in Santa Ynez. The Santa Ynez Valley Wine Trail’s eight wineries will provide samplings of some of their unreleased wines, many of them straight out of their barrels.

Musicians Syndee Brooks and Rick Reeves will present an AIDS benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre. Admission, which includes wine, hors d’oeuvres, backstage pass and a copy of the latest Brooks CD, is $26, or $11 without the frills. Call 963-0761. The Lobero is at 33 E. Canon Perdido St.

Dancers throughout Santa Barbara will be kicking up their heels and flexing their calves Saturday through June 4 in the first Santa Barbara International Dance Festival, sponsored by the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance.

The festival, which will feature a wide range of dances, runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Leadbetter Beach. Presented by the Cormorant Dance Foundation, the program will combine innovative performance art, dance and poetry. Admission is free. Call 569-2366.

UC Santa Barbara’s MultiCultural Center Theater will kick off its gay and lesbian film and video series Tuesday with the showing of “Homoteens” by filmmaker Joan Jubela. The 1993 video presents autobiographical accounts of five homosexual teen-agers living in New York City. It won the Best Video Award at the San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. The much-publicized, highly acclaimed Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company will present a pair of modern dance shows at UCSB’s Campbell Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 p.m. General admission both nights is $12, $15 and $18. Call 893-3535.

Back to the Lobero: The popular national production of the musical comedy “Forever Plaid” will be staged Wednesday at 8 p.m. It’s the story of the members of a harmony quartet who die on their way to their first professional show. Fortunately, they come back via the hole in the ozone layer and do the show anyway. Tickets are $20 (adults) and $18 (senior citizens and students). Call 963-0761.
