Adding Fizz to the Coffee Zip: The North American Coffee Partnership, a group formed last year by Starbucks Coffee Co. and PepsiCo, has announced it will test-market a chilled, sparkling, coffee-based beverage in Santa Monica beginning later this month. The beverage, Mazagran, is a lightly carbonated drink made with Starbucks coffee. Mazagran, named after a beverage drunk by members of the French Foreign Legion in Algeria, is the first product developed by the partnership. It will be sold as a fountain beverage at two Starbucks stores in Santa Monica and will later be available in bottled form in Santa Monica-area supermarkets.
