The Tustin boys’ track and field team wasn’t about to let its opportunity to win the inaugural Golden West League title slip away Thursday.

The Tillers edged host Ocean View, 69-66, to move into a tie for first with the Seahawks.

“We had a lot of third-place finishes today and that’s what made the difference,” said Tustin Coach Tim Ellis, whose team moved from the tough Sea View League after last season.

The Tillers (3-1) had their share of victories, too.

Senior Reggie Curry won the 100 meters in 11.2 seconds, the long jump in 20 feet 4 1/2 inches, the triple jump in 46-8 and finished second in the 200 (23.7).

Junior Dominique Degrammont, the county leader in the 110-meter high hurdles, won his specialty in 14.7.

Ocean View senior Jeremy Womack kept the Seahawks in the meet, winning the 400 (52.1), beating Degrammont in the 300 intermediate hurdles (41.9) and finishing second in the 110 high hurdles (15.3).

Nathan Traxler won the shot put and discus for the Seahawks (3-1), with efforts of 48-2 3/4 and 135-5.
