MOORPARK : City Considers Water Agency Takeover
- Share via
Moorpark officials are scheduling meetings with county representatives to talk about taking over the county agency that provides water service for the city.
Although the City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to begin those discussions, it is not the first time that city officials have discussed taking over Waterworks District No. 1, Councilman Bernardo Perez said.
Council members are still not sure if the city is ready for the responsibility of providing sewer and water services to city residents, Perez said.
The takeover could take up to 30 months and the costs are still unknown, according to city staff.
There are several requirements before the city can take over the agency, Perez said, including getting approval from a majority of the water customers in the service area.
Mayor Paul Lawrason plans to meet with Supervisor Judy Mikels on the matter next month.
