LAKE FOREST : Acting City Manager Named by Council

Fred Sorsabal has been named acting city manager by the City Council, which last week accepted the resignation of Gaylord Knapp, who had held the job since the city was incorporated in December, 1991.

Sorsabal, 57, who recently retired as city manager of Mission Viejo, will guide the city of Lake Forest only over the next four to six weeks, because he is moving to Northern California.

Sorsabal said Tuesday that after him, an interim city manager will hold the position for six months while the City Council searches for a permanent city manager.

Under his contract, Sorsabal will be paid $65 an hour for up to 100 hours. He said he has prepared a list with eight potential candidates for the interim position.

Knapp had been on a six-month contract that ran until June, said Mark Pulone, assistant to the city manager.

Knapp, 52, said in a one-page resignation letter dated April 18 that being Lake Forest’s first city manager “was a real privilege and I appreciate having been given this opportunity.”
