Basketball’s Erving at Titan Auction

The “Bid of Excitement” auction, a major fund-raiser for the Cal State Fullerton athletic department, is scheduled Friday at Titan Pavilion.

Former ABA and NBA star Julius Erving will be the keynote speaker. Angel scout Darrell Miller will be the host for the main auction. More than 2,300 items will be sold beginning at 5 p.m. It will continue Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Yorba Linda Costco with a tent sale of additional items.

The event also raises money for the university’s seven schools and the alumni association. Last year’s auction netted more than $106,000.

Items will include a variety of travel vacations and sports outings.

Melissa McFerrin, lead women’s basketball assistant coach at Ohio State, is among the finalists for the top women’s position at Long Beach State, an administration source said Tuesday.

McFerrin impressed school officials during her interview Monday. Another candidate interviewed Tuesday, and Athletic Director Dave O’Brien and Cindy Masner, senior woman administrator, will decide today whether to formally interview four others.
