It’s a start.

Former Cal State Northridge quarterback J.J. O’Laughlin, passed over in the NFL draft last weekend, has been given a chance to make it in professional football.

O’Laughlin will fly to New York today to work out before Jet officials, who extended the invitation Tuesday.

“I had a lot of ups and downs over the weekend,” O’Laughlin said. “Hopefully, they’ll like what they see.”

O’Laughlin (6 feet 3, 200 pounds) passed for 3,554 yards in two years at Northridge after transferring from Illinois.

The Jets should be familiar with his wares. James Harris, the former Ram quarterback and an assistant general manager with the Jets, has seen O’Laughlin work out twice previously.

O’Laughlin’s agent was told the quarterback was on the Jets’ draft board last weekend, but the team balked at selecting O’Laughlin because of concerns over a back injury suffered when he was at Illinois.

The Jets then signed former Penn State quarterback Tony Sacca to a free-agent contract.

Oscar Wilson, a former Northridge defensive lineman, signed a free-agent contract with the Green Bay Packers over the weekend.
