Orange County Almanac

Filmmakers often come to Orange County to make movies. But rarely is the county actually the setting for their work.

John Wayne Airport, for example, was turned into a Latin American airport for the Harrison Ford movie “Clear and Present Danger.”

But one recent movie was both shot and set in Orange County. “The Chase,” released in 1994, was an action picture.

Many of the scenes were filmed on the Costa Mesa Freeway between South Coast Plaza and Newport Beach, including a memorable chase sequence.

The film even referred to the cops chasing the bad guys as the “Newport Beach Police Department.”

Today

The Chapman Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven and Corigliano in a free concert at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

The concert, conducted by John Koshak, the university’s music director, is being offered as part of the Imagination Celebration.

It begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa.
