VENTURA : Council May Raise City Workers’ Pay

Share

The Ventura City Council today will consider raising the pay of a variety of city employees, a move that would add $1.3 million to the city’s payroll for the 1995-96 fiscal year, according to a report released Friday.

Clerks, maintenance workers, police officers, supervisors and managers are scheduled for raises ranging from 2% to 10%.

Under plans up for council review, clerical and maintenance workers would receive no raise this year but would receive a 2% salary adjustment beginning July, 1996.

Ventura police officers would get a 5% salary hike starting July 3 and an additional 2% increase beginning July, 1996. Motorcycle and canine police would also receive a $50 differential per pay period.

The proposed compensation package for managers, supervisors and other general employees of the city includes salary increases of up to 10%. The majority of the hikes are in the 4% to 6% range, says the report written by Terry Adelman, director of management resources.

Increases are needed to make the city’s salaries comparable with other cities, Adelman said. Pay for many of the city’s positions have been trailing the market for three to four years, he said.
