The Trustees Committee of the America’s Cup has approved Dennis Conner’s sailing PACT 95’s Young America in the cup finals against Team New Zealand, which begin Saturday off San Diego.

Conner had earned the right to represent the United States in the final by beating Young America and the America 3syndicate’s Mighty Mary in the defender finals, then decided his boat, Stars & Stripes, was too slow to beat the New Zealand entry that dominated the challenger trials.

Team New Zealand, which protested the change in boats, was not available to comment on the committee’s decision.
