Federal Government

* I’m getting sick and tired of all these politicians constantly saying that our federal government needs to be weakened and decentralized, that its functions need to be pawned off on the states. I am in favor of having national standards and national policies.
It was national laws that put an end to the state-supported abomination of segregation. It is national safety standards that protect people from products that might otherwise be approved by local politicians in the pockets of major employers. It is the will of the entire nation that protects individuals from the tyranny of small regional majorities.
Besides, my allegiance is not to my city, not to my county, not to my state. It is to my country. I am an American.
