NORWALK : Construction Begins on 20-Screen Theater

Share

Developers have started building what they describe as one of the most advanced movie theater complexes in the Southeast area.

The 80,000-square-foot AMC multiplex at Norwalk Boulevard and Civic Center Drive will feature 20 large screens, digital sound and more legroom than conventional theaters, said Rex Swanson, president of El Segundo-based Metropolitan Highridge Development, the builder.

Swanson said the “stadium-style” theaters will have an 18-inch height difference between rows to give patrons an unobstructed view of the screen. The couch-like seats will have high backs and retractable armrests.

The multiplex is slated to open in February, 1996.

AMC, which is building the theaters on city-owned land, will pay Norwalk’s redevelopment agency about $27,000 a year for 60 years to lease the property.
