The Malcom Elementary School students were recently honored with a first-place award from a contest sponsored by the Walt Disney Co. and the state’s Environmental Education Interagency Network. The students also won the 1995 Clean Air Award for public education on air quality issues from South Coast Air Quality Management District.

The school opened in September and serves as an environmental science academy for the district.
