THOUSAND OAKS : FBI Probe Asked in Man’s Disappearance

Share

Citing possible breaches of national security, an Ohio congressman has written a letter requesting the FBI investigate the disappearance of Thousand Oaks entrepreneur and former rock musician Philip (Taylor) Kramer because he worked at an aerospace company that worked on the MX missile.

Taylor’s family made public a letter, dated Monday, in which Rep. James Traficant (D-Youngstown) writes: “The possibility that foreign elements could be involved in Mr. Kramer’s unexplained disappearance should not be overlooked.”

But Gary Auer, a Ventura FBI agent, said he did not know of the letter written to FBI Director Louis Freeh, and added that there was no immediate need for his office to launch an investigation. “The investigation conducted at the time by the Ventura County sheriff’s office developed no information of any kind to indicate that any crime was involved in Mr. Kramer’s disappearance,” he said.

In the 1970s, Kramer was a bass guitarist for Iron Butterfly. From 1982 to 1985, Kramer was an engineering specialist at Northrop Electronics, where he worked on the MX missile program, according to Traficant. Since then, Kramer had launched a multimedia company in Thousand Oaks.

Kramer disappeared Feb. 12 during a trip to Los Angeles International Airport.
