CAMARILLO : Parking Ban Against Big Rigs Considered

Share

Concerned about the noise and visual blight created by big-rig trucks parked along Lewis Road, the Camarillo City Council on Wednesday will consider an ordinance prohibiting truckers from parking on the thoroughfare.

If approved, the council would authorize staff to apply to the California Department of Transportation to install No Parking signs for trucks on Lewis Road between Temple Avenue and Las Posas Road, according to city traffic engineer Tom Fox.

Caltrans’ approval must be sought because Lewis Road is a state route, Fox said.

Residents living just off Lewis Road have complained that the big rigs are noisy, kick up dust and present a visual blight to their neighborhood. Truckers living in the area, however, say they depend on parking on Lewis Road to be closer to their vehicles.

If the council approves the ordinance, truck drivers will be able to park their rigs in the nearby Flynn Road industrial area, Fox said.

The council will consider the item at its 5 p.m. session at City Hall at 601 Carmen Drive.
