Share

The principals of Troy and La Vista high schools said they will retire at the end of the school year, bringing to three the number of top-level vacancies at the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.

Principals Jerry Atkin of Troy and Duane Clizbe of La Vista High School announced their retirements this week. Last month, Magali (Mikki) Gil, 48, announced that she will leave her job as principal of Fullerton High School for an administrative position at Southern California College in Costa Mesa.

Cindy Hall Ranii, 47, now principal of Sonora High School, will become Fullerton High’s top educator in the fall.

The district is searching for successors to Ranii, Atkin and Clizbe.

Atkin, 57, who holds a law degree, was hired by the district as a Troy High School counselor in 1967. He became the school’s principal in 1989 and has been instrumental in developing Troy’s magnet program, a four-year technology-based curriculum.

Atkin said he plans to practice law after leaving the school.

Clizbe, 60, has been La Vista’s principal since 1989. During his tenure, he helped develop adult education programs and classes in citizenship and English as a second language. He also supported TAPP--Teen-Age Pregnancy & Parenting--as part of his school’s alternative and continuing education program.
