Share

Allan Oakley Hunter, a two-term congressman from Fresno who headed the Federal National Mortgage Assn. in the 1970s, has died.

Hunter, known to his friends as Oakley, was 78 when he died May 2 in a hospital in Bethesda, Md., near his home.

A Republican, he served two terms in Congress (1950-54) before being defeated for reelection. He returned to the practice of law until 1970, when President Richard Nixon made him chief executive of Fannie Mae, the private corporation that buys mortgages from lenders to free up home purchasing funds.
