Rebecca S. Eldridge; Scientific Illustrator

Rebecca S. Eldridge, a longtime Ventura resident, has died following an extended battle with cancer. She was 73.

Mrs. Eldridge, who died Saturday, retired in 1980 after a career that spanned 31 years as a civilian scientific illustrator with the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory in Port Hueneme.

Born in Phoenix, Mrs. Eldridge lived in Lompoc before she and husband John settled in Ventura. After her retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively in their recreational vehicle, but always returned to their home at Poinsettia Gardens Mobile Home Park in east Ventura.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Eldridge is survived by a brother, Edward Cordell of Agoura, a sister, Ruth Moffitt of Fredericksburg, Va., and a sister-in-law, Ginney Cordell.

She is also survived by sons Charles Dunham of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Robert Dunham of Laughlin, Nev., David Dunham of Oxnard, John Eldridge of Oxnard, and a daughter, Diane Doshier of Longview, Tex. Eldridge was also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. The Rev. Jim Wells will officiate.
