COSTA MESA : 2 OCC Pupils Honored for Campus Leadership

Two Orange Coast College students have been honored as Students of the Year by the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce.

The Les Miller Award is given annually to students for outstanding scholarship, leadership and service to the community.

Diane Luong was acknowledged both for her commitment to student activities at the college and her academic performance.

Luong has been a member of student government for two years. She is also a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma, the community college academic honor society. She has also been named to Mu Alpha Theta, the national mathematics honor society.

The political science major will transfer to UC Berkeley in the fall.

Luong shared the award with fellow political science major Paul Mitchell. Mitchell was this year’s president of the Student Assn. of California Community Colleges, a lobbying group. He was also vice president of the Community College League of California.

At Orange Coast College, Mitchell was the chairman of the Democratic Club and was involved with Students for Social Responsibility.
